A new Premier of the Democratic Christian Republic of Melite was elected by Parliament and formally appointed by the President today, after the vacuum left behind by Premier Vella who suddenly left office and departed from the Micronation.

Vincent Paul, a member of the Melitian Parliament from the Directionist Party representing the Dominica Autonomous City, was favoured to win the Parliamentary by-Election held in the quarters of the Melitian Parliament, though it took two rounds for the result to be fully determined. Four candidates from the 3 of the 4 parties represented in the Parliament put forward a candidate, with the Christian Nationalist Party putting forward two candidates, and one each from the Directionist Party, and the Opposition Melite Now! party. The Anarchist Party did not put forward a candidate, due to its only member of Parliament, Rishi Patel, being appointed Speaker of the Parliament.

Suspicion arose on how the election proceeded occurred in the first round, after a tie was achieved in the first poll. In fact, an unexpected visit by the Avalon Civil Liberties Index was made, where its Editor-in-Chief demanded access to the Parliamentary Lounge to observe the proceedings of the second vote, and mistakenly implied that the electoral process was being impeded. Nevertheless, he was allowed to observe the proceedings.

Though he would leave in the middle of the second vote.

The process continued well for a renewed period of 48 hours where different results were achieved, with Joseph Trick of the CNP recieving 3 votes, from 0 in the first round, and Jayden Dagsa of the CNP recieving 2 votes, from the 5 of the first election. Vincent Paul was elected with 6 votes as Premier after the Speaker announced the results.

After all the opposing candidates recognised the result and conceded the election, President Tonna released Decree 08/2022 regarding the Appointment of Premier, appointing Paul formally to the office of Premier of the Democratic Christian Republic of Melite.
